I'm Tom, one of the founders of CarTablet. This all started with a few seconds on the highway.

My phone was wedged in a cupholder, low and off to the side. I glanced down to check an exit, looked back up, and the traffic ahead had stopped.

I stopped in time. But it was close. And it hit me that I had been driving like that for years.

So I went looking for something better. A built-in screen from a dealer cost a fortune and meant days without the car. The clip-on screens were worse: bulky, awkward and buried in cables. Nothing felt right.

If it did not exist, we would build it.

So I spent the next two years on one question. How do you give any car a proper screen, without a trip to the dealer and without buying a new car?

With a small team of engineers, we built prototype after prototype. The goal never changed: it had to feel factory-built, not aftermarket.
